Kirklees DofE Award Trust
Little Deer Wood provides residential or day visits offering a wide range of exciting land and water-based sessions which are accessible to all participants, and enrich the National Curriculum. We support schools in providing a broad and balanced curriculum especially in Personal, Social, Health and Economic education (PSHE) and Physical Education (PE) and can provide planning for the activities.

A list of activities we provide by fully qualified and experienced instructors can be found on the Activities page and Team Building page.

The participants will learn through having fun in the great outdoors, working together and learning more about themselves and others around them. The activities we provide are also aimed at developing children's initiative, decision making, leadership and problem solving skills.

By staying away from home on one of our tailor made residentials, participants will spend a night in a tipi, tent or one of our bespoke Shepherd Huts. These experiences encourage participants independence and help them to develop confidence and resilience whilst equipping them with important social skills for the future.

We are an inclusive centre and pride ourselves on having a "can do" attitude. The activities we provide are accessible to everyone including those with sensory, learning or physical disabilities, as well as those with the most complex needs for which most centre's cannot cater.

Safeguarding is paramount and all our staff are vetted and hold current enhanced DBS certificates. All activity risk assessments have been approved by Kirklees EVC and can be found on the Risk Assessment page along with AALA and insurance documents.

Outdoor learning provides opportunities for participants to face new challenges and develop new skills, helping them to feel more prepared for the next stage of thier education or lives. Particiapnts leave us feeling confident in their own abilities and eager to express their newly found skills.
